I remember the first time i heard of someone spending hours with a single painting, i was highly dubious—and obviously young & stupid then. Spent over an hour with Dou’s magnificent trio of bathers alone and still feel like i’m rushing thru this amazing show. But i’ve learned something else since then, breaks are essential for marathon looking sessions.
