design work

Below is a selection of my graphic design. It’s most definitely in the process of being updated, so please excuse the mess and any screwiness in the mean time. There’s a reason why i’ll never be a web developer.

Cheers!

CMYK Magazine

CMKY Magazine is a bimonthly magazine that showcases top student work in the creative field. The objective was to increase subscriptions as well as participation in the student competition. What better way to do both than to make CMYK available anytime, anywhere?

Collaborators: Janice Fong, Sarah Hagge & Emma Vallee

Research

To start off, our group conducted a survey of our target market with various questions about their knowledge of CMYK Magazine itself, its student design competition, its reading experience and more. We also asked questions about other design annuals and how CMYK stacks up. A moodboard and infographics were developed to capture the brand and it’s target audience. From this case study, a redesign of the magazine and the website followed.

Print Redesign
We streamlined and simplified the page layouts, particularly navigation spreads – the table of contents and section dividers. The addition of smartphone ready QR codes integrate the print edition with the digital. In the newly added New Media section the QR codes give readers video in place of static storyboards. Those without smart phones will be able to watch the new media section through the CMYK website. We also added a pull-out wall “Kalender” to showcase student competition work and to act as a reminder of when submissions are due.

Website Redesign & Digital Edition
An e-magazine was created available for subscription through ipads, touch screen and desktop computers.
A redesign of the CMYK website streamlines all of their content from information about the print magazine, upcoming contests, portfolios and featured articles. A section for creative professionals was added so working professionals could save student projects for possible future hire. Also students can see what is catching professionals’ attention.

Smart Phone App
The CMYK application for your smart phone is a condensed version of the website. Upon logging in, you can access your profile, the CMYK blog and features, take a peek at the most viewed student entries, the New Media section, your fellow competitors, play the CMYK Mix-Up game and watch Mix-Up Videos. To easily increase CMYK student works’ visibility, we’ve created a “drag and share” feature on the phone where the user can easily drag their favorite artwork or entries and share them with others via social networking sites

Long’s Horseradish Freshness Swatch

“Paint your food with freshness” – The Long’s Horseradish Freshness Swatch is an innovative ad that directly engages the consumer while in the market. The swatches will be placed directly in the cold case with the Long’s Horseradish. Just like on a paint chip, each Swatch has a series of colors representing different levels of freshness (the whiter the horseradish, the fresher it is) with Long’s being clearly the freshest.
